Paperfolds

The Paperfolds series investigates the relation between geometry, light and form by creating regular and irregular geometric reliefs from a process of drawing and folding.  Using a single sheet of a polymer-based drafting film with a matte translucent surface, and casting light over the surface of each work, illusions of triangles and parallelograms in differing shades of light and shadow appear to shift in depth and shape. This illusion is exaggerated further with the movement of the viewer.

Paperfolds have also been created from flute-paper, a finely ribbed corrugated card,  and graph paper where instructions for folding are visible to provide a map of the process.
